The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has granted Lihangin Wind Energy Corp., a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power, approval for its 206 MW San Isidro Wind Power Project in Northern Samar. The project will be connected to the Visayas grid through an interim connection agreement, with a permanent substation under construction for full integration.

This marks another milestone in the Philippines’ renewable energy rollout. Wind projects, once seen as risky and limited, are now gaining regulatory traction. For Aboitiz, one of the country’s leading energy players, the project is a statement of intent: it is ready to anchor itself as a major force in renewables.

Northern Samar, one of the country’s least developed provinces, stands to benefit not only from infrastructure investment but also from job creation during construction and operations. In the bigger picture, the project helps diversify the country’s energy mix and lessens dependence on coal.

Impact: For communities, the project promises cleaner energy and potential socio-economic uplift. For investors, it signals regulatory support for faster renewables integration, boosting confidence in long-term returns from green projects. For workers, this means more renewable energy jobs in the Visayas, extending the opportunities beyond Luzon’s traditional energy hubs.
